I started smoking electronic cigarettes several years ago because I wanted to stop smoking cigarettes. I had tried just about every cure under the sun, and nothing worked for me until I tried this new device.
Like you, I was concerned about the health effects, and I wanted electronic cigarettes health information before I decided to give them a try.
Unfortunately, there is just not that much info out there about smokeless cigarettes health issues. Smokeless cigarettes are still very new. However, you can check out
What the FDA had to say about E-cigs here.
While they are not approved yet by the FDA, they could be at some point in the future. In case you don’t know, the FDA is the food and drug administration.
Their mission is to protect consumers and they accomplish this by regulating the food and drugs that we consume in this country.
It may ease your mind to know that electronic cigarettes are very popular in Europe and china, but they are still relatively unknown in this country.
And, because there is no that much smokeless cigarettes health data out there, there is some fear around the issue.
For me, it just made logical since that breathing in a mist that is mixed with water that contains flavoring and nicotine is far better that breathing in smoke.
I understood that there was some risk associated with every product that we consume.
However the risks of these devices did not outweigh the risks if I didn’t give them a try. In other words, It would be far better for me to ‘smoke’ vapor cigarettes than to smoke real cigarettes.
And after trying just about every cure under the sun, that was my personal situation. You can come to your own conclusions.
I had a concerned friend write me an email not to long ago about electronic cigarettes.
My friend was worried that they contained nicotine and were untested, and that there just was not enough smokeless cigarettes health info out there.
Here was my reply:
E-cigarettes are just another tool to help people quit smoking {they can also be used for pure pleasure by the way}.
One of the major addictive properties of cigarettes is the oral fixation people develop as well as the endorphins and other pleasurable chemicals that are released when people smoke.
Electronic cigarettes help with these addictions in addition to the addiction to nicotine.
A user can get all the positive benefits of ‘smoking’ without inhaling harmful smoke.
It would probably be better if people didn’t smoke at all, and it would be better if there was no nicotine in them { you can get them with no nicotine in them, FYI }.
But studies have shown that people have a better chance of quitting if they gradually reduce the amount of nicotine in their system.
And, it isn't likely that smoking is going to leave our culture any time soon.
Millions of people start smoking every day, even though we know it is deadly. The more options out there to help a person quit, the better in my view.
Quitting cold turkey just doesn’t work for most people. There are some risks with electronic cigarettes, mainly that they are still fairly new and extensive testing hasn’t been done.
And they have nicotine in them. Nicotine, as you may know is very addictive and not exactly good for you.
However, the conclusion I came to, and you may too, is that it’s better to do something and take a proactive approach to kicking the habit than it is to just give up after one ‘cure’ hasn’t worked.
Smokeless Cigarettes are just another option out there to help.
